Roadmap

What is planned for Orbit: richer project detail, Git integration, process management, templates, and more.

Orbit is under active development. This page tracks where it is going. Priorities can shift, and the feature tracker is the source of truth.

Recently shipped

Configurable projects directory — pick the folder Orbit scans from Settings, with your choice persisted across restarts.
Settings page — General (projects directory, re-scan, dark-only theme), Applications (editor and terminal), and About sections.
Editor & terminal preferences — auto-detect, pin a known application, or enter a custom command, with Flatpak and Snap wrapper detection.

Near term

Richer project detail — scripts, package manager, dependency lists, and last-modified time.
More detected technologies — the registry is data-driven and easy to extend.
Packaging polish — app icons and installers for distribution.

Git integration

The goal is to make Orbit a useful Git workspace without running every command by hand.

Detect whether a project is a Git repository and show the current branch.
Show working-tree status, ahead/behind counts, and the latest commit summary.
View commit history, inspect diffs, and stage, unstage, and commit changes.
List, create, and switch branches, handling unsafe operations gracefully.

Dependencies & scripts

Display dependencies, devDependencies, and package scripts.
Identify the package manager and run scripts from Orbit.
Provide a convenient way to install dependencies and detect common setup problems.

Development workflow

Show running development processes and their ports.
Restart a backend or dev server; stop selected or all managed processes.
View process output and logs, and expose frequent actions on the project card.

Templates & scaffolding

Create reusable project architecture templates.
Save an existing project's structure as a template.
Scaffold new projects from saved templates with configurable names and options.

Later improvements

Improve monorepo and workspace visualization.
Add project grouping and organization.
Add richer project metadata and customizable settings.
Expand language support beyond JavaScript and TypeScript.
